We are excited to announce that Bookworm Alley is able to relaunch after a prolonged break due to sad circumstances. New members have joined the team, and the dispatch of merchandise will in the foreseeable future operate from two hubs, one in Hadleigh and one in Sunderland.
A word of caution, though. As a few operational changes take place and a sizeable number of books are added to the inventory, it may well be that some delays in sending merchandise your order will occur. We hope for your understanding.
Bookworm Alley was created by Lt-Col. Joan Williams and run by her for more than 15 years. In that time she has helped many young people as well as a number of Salvation Army projects in India from the funds that she has raised. When the time was right, Joan decided to retire from running Bookworm Alley and handed over responsibility to Philip Hendy. Philip created an extension to his house where the books could be safely stored.
Philip and his wife Jan welcomed visitors to browse through the books and Philip organised guide tours of once had been William Booth's Farm Colony as well as of the East End in London, where the work of The Salvation Army began.
Sadly, Philip passed away last year, Colonels Herve and Debbie Cachelin who recently moved to Southend-on-Sea feel called to restart this valuable ministry.
